I'm a high school student and I am a new buyer in computers and before i start my research I would like to know your opinion on things like what it should include, a good price to pay, witch brands to look at, and what you think a computer should have. thanks everyone! |

As far as netbooks go they are way small although they can be powerful enough for a student. they have a small keyboard that is a hard learning curve for people with huge fingers. they are nice and small for portability but often that prevents them from having optical drives like a cd rom drive and other nice things to have. if you go net book the common drive is about 500-700 for a low price one. as far as regular laptops they can range from 700-900 for a decent one. my brother has a small netbook i like it personally its nice to have something small and lightweight typing took some time for me but it doesnt take up much desk space which is wonderful. braneds for netbooks id go with asus very very good company ive followed them since my first self built computer motherboard. if you go laptop id go dell good service huge company so they can lower their prices easier. asus also makes good laptops and so does acer. and remember you are shopping for something you want. the key when shopping for you is to be as picky as you can. you will own it for 4 years and more so make sure you love everything about it. |

If you want battery life, look for an Atom N4xx processor and a 6 cell battery. (eg: bestbuy.com/ site/ Asus+ -+ Eee+ PC+ Netbook+ with+ Intel%26%23174%3B+ Atom%26%23153%3B+ Processor+ -+ Midnight+ Blue/ 9727578.p?id= 1218161507582 &skuId= 9727578) I think that Asus makes quality netbooks, but since netbooks are small, a large part of your decision will be personal preference (which keyboards and touchpads are you comfortable using). If you want a little bit more power and a slightly bigger screen (and are willing to pay a little more), look for a laptop with an AMD Neo processor, but you will be sacrificing battery life. eg: newegg.com/ Product/ Product.aspx?Item= N82E16834115822 Actually something like this dell.com/ us/ en/ home/ notebooks/ inspiron-11z/ pd.aspx?refid= inspiron-11z &s= dhs &cs= 19 &~ck= mn would be a good alternative to the traditional netbook. |

It would be nice to know what you can spend, if you don't get the newspaper delivered, buy the local Fri or Sat paper which includes all the weekends sales flyers, you can buy net books for $200 to $500. however you also can buy a damn good dual core AMD laptop for around $300 and it's able to do so much more. Do your research and decide whats best for you |
