Question: Having problems connecting computer components to motherboard?
(Posted by: sam on 2009-11-21 20:51:27)
I am building my first computer(on my own, have built one at school before successfully) and according to my computer engineering teacher i bent my motherboard. I insert the mother into the case with the riser on and then plug in the all the cables and such and i have to push down to get them to connect, so how am I suppose to do this without "bending " the motherboard? This is kinda hard to explain, but if you have any questions just leave it below and i will add extra details. By the way it is an ECS G31T- M7 motherboard and a Intel celeron cpu |

Don't press so hard, ease the components in. If worried, slide some soft plastic under the board to spread the load while you install. Make sure you use every possible riser hole. Get a trash board from a store to practice on first. |

I will usually use a few of my fingers to push the board toward what i am plugging in, enough so it does not warp, that way its a nice solid fit, but the risers are not high enough to bend the motherboard to where it wont work, so you dont have to worry about bending it. |

If you made sure you have all the stand-offs in the right places, your motherboard will only flex so far. Although you do have to be careful installing components and wiring. They should snap into place with a small amount of effort. If it's not going in, check to be sure you have it the right way around! Never force it! |

What do you mean by 'bend the board' ? I strongly disapprove 'bending the board'. The motherboard should fit exactly on the Cabinet with no need for bending or any kind of such. You can damage the components or the circuitry while bending. If your motherboard does not fit exactly on the cabinet, buy a new cabinet. Well, worst can happen if the board is kept bent. With time, the stress can develop component failue or broken circuits. In the future, do not bend any kind of PCBs even if it is a Motherboard, a Graphics Card, a sound card etc. |
